Before I even connected to the Wi-Fi, my first jump scare hit just steps past the entrance of Universal Horror Unleashed in Las Vegas, a brand-new year-round horror experience located just off the Strip next to AREA15.

“This is more than just another scary house or horror-themed escape room,” explains Colleen Laird of Universal Destinations. “You could literally spend all day exploring the four haunted houses, all the themed areas, unique dining, bars, live entertainment and scary movie merch at the gift shop.”

She’s not exaggerating. This is no 20-minute attraction; it’s a wall-to-wall horror universe. The place is crawling with characters, from dead cheerleaders and swooping vampires to a giant praying mantis and a wisecracking serial killer, all dying to get a reaction out of you.

My friends and I scored an early sneak peek before the grand opening on August 14, 2025, so here’s your inside scoop on what to expect and how to plan your visit.

Inside the Four Haunted Houses at Universal Horror Unleashed

Universal Monsters – Classic Horror Icons Come Alive

The first haunted house that you'll encounter brings Universal’s most legendary creatures into one terrifying space. Step through Van Helsing’s crumbling mausoleum, creep down the shadowy halls of Castle Dracula, dodge the sands of The Mummy’s tomb, and watch Frankenstein’s lab spark to life. Every corner drips with detail that die-hard horror fans will spot and appreciate.

Horror Movie Fans: See if you can name all the monster busts at the entrance — it’s harder when you’re already on edge.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – Dinner’s Served (and You’re the Main Course)

This haunt recreates the 1974 horror masterpiece scene by scene. You’ll start at the eerie Texan cemetery, meet the Old Man at the dusty gas station, and eventually wind your way into Leatherface’s house of horrors — a dreadful maze of twisted family members, decaying remains, and that infamous dining room.

Horror Movie Fans: As you walk-in, you’ll notice the opening crawl text from the original movie, The Film You Are About To See…”

Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer – Evil in a Familiar Place

This one hit differently for me, and not in a comforting way. The fear builds slowly, room by room, as you witness the girls’ disturbing transformation. What made this experience especially unsettling was the brilliant set design: it looks like an ordinary home. There’s something deeply unnerving about being in what should be a place of comfort, knowing evil lurks just around the corner.

Scarecrow: The Reaping – Nature’s Revenge

This fan-favorite from Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights plays out like a horror film brought to life. It felt like I spawned into a barren farmland overrun by bloodthirsty scarecrows,  weathered barns, brittle cornfields, and shadows that move when they shouldn’t. The cinematic sets and special effects make every moment feel like you’re trapped inside a big-screen nightmare, and the only way out is forward.

Dining & Bar Experiences: Eat, Drink, and Be Scared

Rough Cuts serves “chainsaw”-carved small plates with menu names as mischievous as they are unsettling; think Shoulder, Ribs, Parts & Pieces, and for dessert, simply The Leftovers, a sticky twist on monkey bread.

Premiere House is a sprawling tapas bar that celebrates the twisted world of Blumhouse. This is the perfect spot for friends and family to regroup over drinks and enjoy the cheeky small plates like chainsaw flatbreads and salads with dressing delivered in syringes. If you’re with a group, order the Green Dread, a shareable cocktail of Bombay Sapphire Gin, chic garnishes, and six dashes of “human tears,” all served in a lab beaker.

Universal Horror Unleashed dessert
Death by Chocolate dessert is a twisted take on devil's food cake with white chocolate cracked doll heads.

Jack’s Alley drops you into a twisted dark carnival ruled by the deranged Jack the Clown and his wicked sidekick Chance. Here you’ll find Jack’s Alley Bar, which features standout cocktails like Bloodsucker, Graverobber, and Jack’s Juice. After dark, stick around for Stay or Slay; a sick, twisted show where the line between audience and act gets seriously blurred.

The Boiler is one hellish spectacle of a bar located at the heart of Universal Horror Unleashed. Craft cocktails, wine and local draft beer are served beneath a monstrous flaming machine while you watch the action unfold all around you. Order the Sever Pear cocktail for a spooky bartender’s surprise.
