Quick stops with Bold Latin Flavors
Food is almost always at the center of any celebration, and if you’re in Las Vegas during Mexican Independence Day, you’re in for a true fiesta of flavors — the numerous Latin restaurants on the Strip are only amplified off-Strip, where this Southwestern U.S. city has shined.
One such eatery is Milpa Mexican Café, where chef DJ Flores earned a finalist spot in the prestigious James Beard Awards. Pretty much equidistant from Durango Casino & Resort and Red Rock Casino Resort Spa, the spot specializes in sustainable sourcing. Heirloom corn masa is going to take those tacos, burritos and more to the next level.
Nearby you can find a menu encompassing several Mexican flavors at Siempre, J.B. The restaurant, located in the recent UnCommons complex, offers takes on street food and gourmet Mexican dishes, all in a stylish space perfect for a celebration.
Also at UnCommons, Todo Bien will mark Mexican Independence Day on Tuesday, Sept. 16, starting at 4:30 p.m. with a curated menu of $12 cocktails, including playful creations made with Pantalones tequila. Guests can also enjoy DJ beats and Mexican hot dogs; all set in a tiki-meets-Mexico setting that blends vibrant design with spirited mixology.
Brunch is always a good place to start, especially when it involves multiple flavors of bottomless mimosas. Find just that at Mi Barrio, a Latin-inspired brunch spot serving up twists on classics — think: Benedicts served on sopes. Yum!
Looking for a quick lunch bite? Head to Promenade inside Fontainebleau Las Vegas, where Roadside Taco is serving comforting and street-food classics. Birria, pastor, carne asada — you’ll find a tortilla-wrapped gem here, plus a slew of agua frescas that will certainly help wash it all down.
And just down the Strip right by The STRAT Hotel, Casino & Tower you can find Viva Las Arepas, a Venezuelan eatery specializing in the arepa. It’s a delicious, stuffed cornmeal cake (similar to an empanada) that’s a staple of the South American country — if you go, you’re welcome.
La Neta Cocina y Lounge and Más Por Favor are offering holiday specials made for celebrating Mexican Independence Day. On Sep. 16, at La Neta Cocina, in Downtown Summerlin, guests can dive into $20 endless tacos, $25 bottomless margaritas, and $7 shots from 3 p.m. to close. Meanwhile, in Chinatown, Más Por Favor turns its festive Taco Tuesday into a holiday fiesta with $2 tacos, $3 shots, and $20 bottomless margaritas, served alongside its flavorful street food menu.
